Communicative approach in language classes. Extensive oral practice. Approaching culture
What materials and media do you use in the classroom?
Extensive use of animated powerpoints. Use of audio-visual clips. rewriting stories. Use of literature, art, music, film in culture and literature classes.
What is the most engaging assignment you give?
Rewriting stories in language textbook. Substituting animals for human beings.
When grading a student, what do you look for?
Assimilation of taught material. Ability to reproduce knowledge. Creative use of taught material.
What kind of student would love your class?
Curious, hard working students. Students open to creative enterprise.
What is one piece of advice you have for students?
Stay curious.
What area in your field are you most knowledgeable about?
Arabic language, literature, and Culture
What is one accomplishment you are proud of?
Translating and publishing Arabic literature
Are you currently involved in something interesting outside the classroom?
Yes. Translating a novel by an Iraqi writer.

I have a moustache.
