What is your style of teaching?
learning cycle requires students to both think and do. students take risks by experimenting and are guided to learn from their mistakes before trying yet again.
What materials and media do you use in the classroom?
readings from books/articles. sample documents/dialogue from organizations. sample dialogue from popular films. powerpoint/prezi. discussion summaries.
What is the most engaging assignment you give?
communication audits of organizations and leaders. students apply classroom knowledge by acting as consultants to enhance others' performance.
When grading a student, what do you look for?
adequacy in addressing questions/goals. accuracy in applying concepts. insight in understanding of real problems or effective practices.
What kind of student would love your class?
thoughtful, mature, curious, responsible, flexible, practical.
What is one piece of advice you have for students?
to profit from education requires your active participation both inside and outside the classroom.
What area in your field are you most knowledgeable about?
leadership communication, qualitative research methods, scholarly publishing, technical communication.
What is one accomplishment you are proud of?
as a research journal editor, I produced 40 issues on time and under budget over 10 years.
Are you currently involved in something interesting outside the classroom?
as an associate dean, I devote half of my time to administration, managing all accreditation-related activities for the business school.
Is there anything else the student should know before taking your class?
I treat all university students as adults, with all of the privileges and responsibilities that entails.
