What is your style of teaching?
Combination of lecture and group activities.
What materials and media do you use in the classroom?
Textbook, video, audio. I DO NOT USE POWERPOINT.
What is the most engaging assignment you give?
Allowing students to deconstruct a short film and break it up into it's story elements.
When grading a student, what do you look for?
Clarity of thought, originality, a story grounded in truth that shows student's passion, adherence to rules of grammar and punctuation.
What kind of student would love your class?
One who is willing to let others see his/her passion for telling stories/communicating. One who is willing to share personal stories.
What is one piece of advice you have for students?
Read the syllabus!
What area in your field are you most knowledgeable about?
Writing for non-fiction television
What is one accomplishment you are proud of?
Working as a producer/writer for one of the most prolific production companies for non-fiction television.
Are you currently involved in something interesting outside the classroom?
I have a full-time job in media relations.
Is there anything else the student should know before taking your class?
I don't give grades, you earn them. I'm kind of tough, but it's tough love.
