What is your style of teaching?
Challenge students through conversational lectures, open discussions and assignments. Offers feedback on work and motivates peers to contribute as well.
What materials and media do you use in the classroom?
Printed hand-outs, overhead projector hooked-up either to a computer or iPad for presentation purposes and web surfing. Creates a website for each class taught.
What is the most engaging assignment you give?
A project given towards the end of the semester that is a culmination of material/skills learned while demonstrating the student's use of self expression.
When grading a student, what do you look for?
Fulfillment of requirements, application of concept, effort, attention to detail, and originality.
What kind of student would love your class?
Someone who is eager to learn and is not afraid to go beyond their safety zone. Is inspired to explore the world around them.
What is one piece of advice you have for students?
Keep the lines of communication open! Your professors want you to succeed. If outside issues prevent you from doing assignments, attending class–contact them.
What area in your field are you most knowledgeable about?
All aspects of graphic design and branding when applied to print and web medias.
What is one accomplishment you are proud of?
Being able to juggling having a family with a career.
Are you currently involved in something interesting outside the classroom?
Participates in ongoing juried watercolor painting exhibitions. Authors a blog related to color's influences on culture, history, politics, science and media.
Is there anything else the student should know before taking your class?
I learn from students too, everyday.
