What is your style of teaching?
Enthusiastic and interactive.
What materials and media do you use in the classroom?
Programming demonstrations, handouts, design and discussion exercises. Not much Powerpoint!
What is the most engaging assignment you give?
Program a creative choreography number with "turtles" .... or improve the design of a well-known interface .... or write your own professional code of ethics.
When grading a student, what do you look for?
Take it seriously. Don't phone it in.
What kind of student would love your class?
Someone who enjoys learning, communicating and creating.
What is one piece of advice you have for students?
Take control of your own education. It's your life; don't sit there waiting for instructors, parents, bosses or anyone else to tell you what they want.
What area in your field are you most knowledgeable about?
Requirements for and design of interactive applications.
What is one accomplishment you are proud of?
I won the college teaching award in 2010, but that means I'm not eligible again for several years.
Are you currently involved in something interesting outside the classroom?
A task force to design a flexible interdisciplinary major program.
Is there anything else the student should know before taking your class?
My sense of humour is spelled differently.
