What is your style of teaching?
Get folks writing. The purpose of critique is to cause more writing. In-session exercises; students post comments on readings and ea. other's work on a blog
What materials and media do you use in the classroom?
Pen, paper; laptops (for writing, drawing). Show some video.
What is the most engaging assignment you give?
For student's to say! Am stunned by whatever they come up with that's a surprise to them - that gets around preconceptions of what a play is/how to write one...
When grading a student, what do you look for?
Have they written their brains out.
What kind of student would love your class?
Love of ideas ethics poetic action (doing the irreducible).
What is one piece of advice you have for students?
Discover the creative capacity of silence/chaos
What area in your field are you most knowledgeable about?
Still learning, ambiently. Am interested in lings between playwriting and prayer.
What is one accomplishment you are proud of?
I've got so far to go... I'm glad to be at Brown.
Are you currently involved in something interesting outside the classroom?
Art testimony; art and trauma, art as community organizing.
Is there anything else the student should know before taking your class?
Write steadily and fearlessly into uncertainty.
