What is your style of teaching?
I am very interactive with the students, there is a lot of hands on classwork. Participation from students is part of the everyday lectures
What materials and media do you use in the classroom?
Outside resources, books, video's periodicals and industry related media, power points and movies that relate to the course of study.Handouts are a must
What is the most engaging assignment you give?
Art vs Fashion, Global Influences of Fashion. Interpretation of historical pieces of artwork into todays fashion, utilizing textiles, architecture and apparel
When grading a student, what do you look for?
Attention to detail, fully answered questions. Correct grammar and terminology used in the industry
What kind of student would love your class?
Passionate about learning, one who knows that prior planning prevents poor performance. A student that wants to know the internal structure of the industry
What is one piece of advice you have for students?
Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance in everything that you do!
What area in your field are you most knowledgeable about?
The business of retail/apparel nationally and globally
What is one accomplishment you are proud of?
Being the only female in my family with a PhD.
Are you currently involved in something interesting outside the classroom?
My apparel class is involved in the Hats for Hope project with the Gloria Gemma breast Cancer Foundation, making hats for women going through chemotherapy
Is there anything else the student should know before taking your class?
They should be ready and prepared to learn everyday. I have extremely high expectations of commitment from my students
