What is your style of teaching?
I do a combination of lectures, giving notes, showing videos, in class activities, power points and discussions. I also use examples of my experience.
What materials and media do you use in the classroom?
Text Book, News Papers, Creative Activities, movies, Power Points, real life stories when is related to the topic, w/o any identifying information.
What is the most engaging assignment you give?
I have given an assignment called "It is all about you" which helps students explore their inner self, motives and goals. That has proven to be a guiding light.
When grading a student, what do you look for?
focusing on the material while in the class, engage in the activities, completion of home works, respect for every one in the class, participate in discussions
What kind of student would love your class?
Most students do like the class, since it is interactive, and there are a variety of mediums. They need to keep an open mind about activities
What is one piece of advice you have for students?
Psychology is helpful no matter if you are going to choose to stay in the field or not. It will prepare you for understanding people better, as well as yourself
What area in your field are you most knowledgeable about?
My main area of specialty in Substance Abuse and Mental Health. I have been a clinician for about 20 years. I educate, prevent and treat my clients.
What is one accomplishment you are proud of?
I have been able to keep a balance between my work and family. I have been licensed in Clinical Social Work, and Substance Abuse in the state of Rhode Island.
Are you currently involved in something interesting outside the classroom?
Currently I do Yoga, Zomba, and draw when ever I have a chance. I also like to decorate and make floral arrangements.
Is there anything else the student should know before taking your class?
Just bring their open mind and willingness to learn.
