What is your style of teaching?
Highly interactive. I expect students to be fully engaged in daily discussion of assigned readings.
What materials and media do you use in the classroom?
Materials: Text, journal articles, cases; Media: PowerPoint, video, clickers
What is the most engaging assignment you give?
Varies by class. It will entail some type of team assignment and a real industry or organization and establishment of a strategic plan
When grading a student, what do you look for?
Have they appropriately and adequately addressed the assignment? Have they demonstrated understanding of applicable theory? How well have they communicated?
What kind of student would love your class?
Students who are risk takers and aren't afraid of speaking in class. Those who are eager to learn, and willing to work hard and who are not all about grades.
What is one piece of advice you have for students?
Practice
What area in your field are you most knowledgeable about?
Strategic planning - this is a very broad area, but it is hard to narrow down to one.
What is one accomplishment you are proud of?
Work related: I have won a CBA Best Teacher Award; Non-work related: My family - wife of 31 years and three sons
Are you currently involved in something interesting outside the classroom?
I conduct research in corporate citizenship. I am a trustee on a nonprofit that raises philanthropic funds. I play soccer in an over 58 league.
Is there anything else the student should know before taking your class?
I will challenge them. They will need to work hard to be successful. However, the vast majority of students find my classes enjoyable and fulfilling.
