What materials and media do you use in the classroom?
I use study guides and the text and overhead document camera as well as the internet. Also use white board a lot for visual learners.

What kind of student would love your class?
Students who like to learn about drugs/alcohol and addiction/recovery. Also students who like self discovery. My classes involve student participation.

What is your style of teaching?
I lecture and do small group in-class assignments. I try to have a give and take between myself and the students. Write on white board and use pc and internet.

My teacher of the year award at my college AND a 2011 NISOD (Nat'l Institute for Staff and Organizational Development)Excellence Award recipient for teaching.

I have student attend a 12 step/self help group and report on their experience

Is there anything else the student should know before taking your class?
I think that as long as I love teaching my students will enjoy learning from me.I am a US Navy veteran and advise the VETS club on campus and the DARC club

What is one piece of advice you have for students?
Treat my class like a job-come on time and come prepared. U may need me for a reference/recommendation for job/scholarship someday.

I am the NE reg. vice pres for the Nat'l Assoc. for Addiction Professionals AND a commissioner for the accreditation commission for addiction studies programs.
